What is LVL board

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is a material made by laminating thick veneers along the grain direction, hot pressing, gluing, and sawing. It can compensate for the shortcomings of artificial fast-growing wood, such as soft materials, low strength, and large size variability, achieving optimal use of inferior wood and large use of small wood, and alleviating the contradiction caused by wood shortage.
Process principle: LVL (laminated veneer lumber) is a material made by laminating thick veneer along the grain direction, hot pressing, bonding, and sawing. It is similar to the production process of plywood, and the preparation process of veneer is almost identical, with the main differences in the assembly, hot pressing, and post treatment processes.

1. Rotary cutting: Cut the logs into different specifications of veneer with a thickness of 1-3 millimeters.

2. Drying and steaming: Various specifications of veneer are cut and dried by rotary cutting, then leveled and dried by a drying machine at around 120 degrees Celsius. The moisture content of the veneer is controlled at 8% -10%.

3. Splicing boards are used to concatenate various dried and leveled boards into a certain length and broadband board through a connecting machine according to the requirements of the production product.

4. Gluing: After drying, leveling, and connecting the veneer, it is coated with phenolic adhesive through a gluing machine.

5. Wood venner assemble and cold pressing: According to the requirements, the glued veneer is laid in a certain number of layers parallel to the wood grain direction, and formed through cold pressing.

Hot pressing: The laminated board formed by cold pressing is hot pressed at a temperature of 160 degrees Celsius for a certain period of time, and the adhesive is heated and cured to form laminated material.

Characteristics of LVL
The production method of unidirectional assembly and parallel hot pressing makes LVL have advantages such as uniform structure, high strength, and good dimensional stability compared to solid wood, which can meet the requirements of various fields of use.
